Samir, Iraqi director who lives in Switzerland, author of the film "Iraqi Odyssey", shown on Beldocs 2015, a documentary film festival in Belgrade, Serbia. In this interview, he is telling us about his impressions of Belgrade, the similarities of our capital with Baghdad, the reception of his film in Europe and in Arab world, life under a dictatorship and bombing, his future plans, and how to, according to him, everyone should do something to make a better world ...
Samir’s documentary IRAQI ODYSSEY tells the story of his own diasporic family and in the telling he reconstructs a part of Iraqi history. With this he has laid a foundation.
He made a website trying to re-tell the story of Iraq, for ultimately history is but a collection of smaller and larger stories. All stories together make up the history of Iraq. This is about creating a personal, subjective history open to discovery.
